This article explains the benefits of using video cameras in our programs, as well as demonstrates how we’re using technology to enhance our Reggio-inspired practices.
WHY IS BAMBINI USING CAMERAS IN THEIR PROGRAMS?
Early learning programs are essential to communities. They provide the opportunity for families to earn an income while knowing that their children are being cared for during the day. However, bambini is committed to exceeding the standards in early learning and childcare.
In a unique, Reggio-inspired environment, we strive to deliver the utmost quality in our program. We look for every opportunity to recruit and train professionals who are committed to this level of excellence. CCTV monitoring provides us modern tools to train professionals, students, and volunteers in delivering services that embody our philosophy and style of care.
HOW DO VIDEO CAMERAS ENHANCE BAMBINI’S REGGIO-INSPIRED PHILOSOPHY?
The decision to include cameras in our program was one which took much assessment and deliberation. We would not want to adopt any new procedures that would be incompatible with our core program values.
However, as we reviewed the impact video cameras could have on our program, we quickly realized that they would enhance the Reggio-inspired experience.
First of all, at bambini, each child is viewed as an individual. Video surveillance gives us the ability to gather extra observations about children’s interests and learning styles.
Secondly, relationships are a crucial component of a Reggio-inspired program. We will utilize the cameras to strengthen relationships between the families and educators. Families will have access to view their child’s activities in action. Quality of education and experience will be reinforced and supported by video.
Furthermore, in a Reggio-inspired program, the child is central to their own education. The child’s interests are expanded upon and their learning comes from diving deeper into what fascinates and inspires them. Educators can use video to support the child’s education.
In addition, the child’s guardian has the opportunity to witness special experiences like guest speakers, memorable events, performances, etc. Bambini often involves and invites the children’s families to these activities but sometimes it’s difficult for a guardian to attend because of work or personal responsibilities. Video footage of such events allows the guardian the access to connect and experience these occasions “with” their child. This beautiful connection between the program, child, guardian, and educator is certainly unique and we are excited to offer this to our bambini families.
Lastly, a key component of a Reggio-inspired program is documentation. Video footage of the children can be used by our child care professionals to write more detailed documentation panels and learning stories, both of which are a cornerstone to bambini’s practices.
WHAT COMPANY IS BAMBINI USING?
After much research, we decided to use the services of PB&J TV®. PB&J TV has been serving the early learning community since 2008. They are the industry’s number one camera system and streaming app. Their services are customized for partner schools and programs of all sizes.
WHAT ARE THE SAFETY FEATURES OF PB&J TV?
There are many safety features of PB&J TV. We encourage you to investigate all of the safety features on the PB&J TV website. Here is a sampling of just a few of their many safety features:
Username and password access is aligned with a combination of security algorithms including IP monitoring, Dynamic IP Restrictions, and many other screening/filtering systems.
PB&J TV uses Stream Shield which protects against unauthorized duplication via screenshots and/or screen recording.
Their facilities feature 24-hour manned security, biometric access control, video surveillance, and physical locks.
These are just a few of the many ways in which PB&J TV protects its clients.
